Driven by intellectual curiosity and the desire to build a better mousetrap, tinkerers are at the heart of game-changing inventions and innovations. But the age of automation, de-emphasis on basic trade and technical skills in school, and societal factors have led to a skills gap in the workforce that threatens future innovation.
Cultivating the next generation of skilled-labor and manufacturing professionals is a driving passion for actor and long-time manufacturing advocate John Ratzenberger. "The innovators who are studying science, technology, engineering, and math need the final piece of the puzzle – manual arts including welding, machining, carpentry – to bring their ideas to life."
In this special keynote presentation, Ratzenberger—best known for his iconic turn as mailman Cliff Clavin on Cheers and Pixar’s lucky charm—will discuss the skills gap in manufacturing, recount his own tinkering experience developing an eco-friendly alternative to styrofoam packing peanuts, and what attendees can do to encourage the next generation of innovators.
Join us for what promises to be a lively and thought-provoking Center Stage presentation on March 7 at 1:00 pm, followed by an audience Q&A.
